Well, Hurricane Gustav’s visit was not as destructive as it could have been but it was still a very bad storm. In our neighborhood, it appears that I was hardest hit.
I had three big oak trees down in my front yard. (During Katrina, I had 12 down in the yard.) The worst part is that one of the trees (about 60′ tall) fell across the power line to my house. The two poles are leaning toward each other and the (insulated) power lines are on the ground with a big log across them! The good news is that the power is on - thank God!
I do not know of anyone who was hurt in the storm. The roads are clear here in our area. Power is on in most locations. Our neighbors have land line phones but, for some reason, my service is dead. The cell phones have been unusable until just an hour ago when they came up slightly. I have been able to get a data connection to my laptop via the cell phone and I am making this update on that. So far, I have not been able to make any voice calls.
Our church evidently had a bit of roof damage - it has started leaking. We are planning to have our normal Thursday night Bible Study at the church tonight. I trust that everyone will be able to attend.
To everyone who has been concerned and praying for us - we are fine. Viv and I have a lot of work to clean up the downed trees and get the yard back but that is all minor stuff. My mom and her dog and our four babies (dogs) are all doing well. Thank you for your prayers.
